Family Patriarch

We had the honor and blessing to visit with my Uncle Joe last night. We spent the night here at his place and wish we could stay longer.

During our visit I learned many things about him and the family. During the reminisces all of our emotions were touched. Happiness about good times, we had laughter, sadness and grief among many others. It just depended on what we were talking about at the time.

We really enjoyed the family stories and the updated family information!

Today it seems like families are disconnected from one another.

It is common to see them all sitting in the same room but in their own digital worlds looking at their phones.

We should spend time with our family patriarchs!

They are the only ones that can pass down the real-life stories from their past. Uncle Joe shared with me about the flood in July of 1951 at Fort Riley Kansas while he was stationed there. That’s history that my own family lived. I think it great to hear those stories.

Even the word of God tells us to pass down the things that happens. Amen?

Joel 1:2-4 GNB (2) Pay attention, you older people; everyone in Judah, listen. Has anything like this ever happened in your time or the time of your ancestors? (3) Tell your children about it; they will tell their children, who in turn will tell the next generation. (4) Swarm after swarm of locusts settled on the crops; what one swarm left, the next swarm devoured.

So let us tell our young ones about our lives. Break them out of that digital bondage they are in and tell them a story. Amen?

But not only are we to share our stories from the past but also the commandments of God. Amen?

Deuteronomy 11:18-19 GNB (18) "Remember these commands and cherish them. Tie them on your arms and wear them on your foreheads as a reminder. (19) Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you are resting and when you are working.

I am going to visit some more this morning with my Uncle and am looking forward to it.

Ya’ll share stories with the younger generation and go listen to a patriarch today.

Be blessed.
