A Foothold!
As you can see by the picture, Zebra mussels got a foot hold on our houseboat!
Leaving the motor in the water does not hurt anything unless of course you have zebra mussels!
They can wreak havoc on many things!
Since we have an outboard, it is not as bad as it can be for the folks with inboard motors having a cooling system.
My neighbor at the marina had to have a professional mechanic come out and make some repairs due to the zebra mussels that infiltrated his cooling system! If he had not noticed that one engine was running hotter than the other he could have lost an engine!
You see, the veligers (microscopic babies) can cause this harm when they are taken into the cooling system, where they can attach, grow and block intake screens, internal passages, hoses, seacocks, and strainers.
They get a foothold inside the cooling system and then continue to grow, eventually blocking the system, resulting is an overheated engine.
Yes, a catastrophic failure due to a small “insignificant” mussel. Crazy huh?
We have to avoid this by not allowing the mussels to get a foothold!
I should have left the motor lifted out of the water a far as I can.
That is just like the devil, isn’t it?
We give him a small insignificant inch and he eventually takes a mile!
Giving the devil a foothold will lead to him having a stronghold on you!
The word tells us to not even give him a place!
Ephesians 4:27 KJV Neither give place to the devil.
Or a foothold
Ephesians 4:27 NIV and do not give the devil a foothold.
The word for foothold or space means a small spot on the whole.
It boils down to this.
Just compromising your time with the Lord gives the devil a foothold.
It could be your friends, family or just your own attitude that gives the foothold to the devil.
That small insignificant SPOT in relationship to your WHOLE time.
Once he gets a start, he will do everything he can to overtake you, just like the mussels on our houseboat!
Pray today and ask the Lord what you may be doing (or not doing) to allow the devil a foothold.
Have a blessed day!
